The goal of discipline is to bring the offending party to a state of repentance, which will restore them to the fellowship of the group. In this parable of “Buster and Bowie” we learn about one unrepentant heart. The moral question for today, however, is will Dr. Parker Young ever recognize his sin, repent, and be restored to the church he swore to uphold?
Through a parable of “Maurice the Bank Robber” we can see the parallel to the events that transpired at Second Presbytery as it pertains to the application of justice to correct a sinful action, even if the intended result of that sin did not take place. Does one not punish a bank robber if his attempt to rob the bank ends in failure? Second Presbytery appears to think not!
